Casting has been confirmed for Pitlochry Festival Theatre much-anticipated revival of Gypsy – the first staging in Scotland for nearly 20 years.

Jule Styne, Arthur Laurents and Stephen Sondheim’s classic musical is based on the memoirs of famous striptease artist Gypsy Rose Lee and tells the story of pushy stage mother Rose. It features such standards as “Some People”, “Let Me Entertain You”, and “Everything’s Coming Up Roses”.

Leading the cast is Shona White (Jack Absolute Flies Again) as Mamma Rose, alongside Blythe Jandoo (Sunshine on Leith) as Louise, Patricia Panther (Peter Pan and Wendy) as June, Ben Stock (Grease) as Herbie, Matthew Churcher (Animal Farm) as LA/Cigar, Oliver Cookson (Hay Fever) as Pop Rose/Mr Goldstone, Rachael McAllister (Little Women) as Mazeppa, Robbie Scott (Peter Pan and Wendy) as Tulsa, Joseph Tweedale (The Meaning of Zong) as Yonkers/Weber, Jack Ward (Bridgerton) as Angie, Trudy Ward (As You Like It) as Agnes, and Kristin Weichen Wong (Field- Something For The Future Now) as Tessie Tura.

Director Ben Occhipinti said: “Gypsy is one of the most loved and powerful musicals ever written. I have wanted to direct it ever since I discovered the film years ago. I can’t think of another musical that brings the combined elements of drama, song and dance together in such a clear and joyful way. The combination of Sondheim’s exquisite lyrics and Styne’s beautiful melodies make Gypsy an enduring, powerful story. I can’t wait to bring it to life on the Pitlochry stage with such a talented and brilliant company.”

Joining Occhipinti in the creative team are musical director Rob Hiley, choreographer Maggie Rawlinson, designer Liz Cooke, lighting designer Kate Bonney, and sound designer Lorna Munden.

Gypsy runs at Pitlochry Festival Theatre from 19 May to 30 September.
