Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory are making their first foray into theatre
Alison Goldfrapp and her bandmate Will Gregory will provide music for the National Theatre's forthcoming production of Medea, which opens in the Olivier Theatre in July.
The duo, who as Goldfrapp have enjoyed critical and commercial success, mark their first foray into theatre with the production, for which they have developed a "series of brand-new musical works".
The compositions will be played by an on-stage band, the National has confirmed.
Medea, Euripides' classic tragedy of a woman who avenges her husband's betrayal, features a new version by Ben Power and is directed by Carrie Cracknell.
Helen McCrory plays the title role in a cast that also includes Michaela Coel, Dominic Rowan, Danny Sapani and Martin Turner.
The production will be designed by Tom Scutt, with lighting by Lucy Carter, choreography by Lucy Guerin, sound design by Gregory Clarke, and fight direction by Owain Gwynn.
Medea opens on 21 July (previews from 14 July) and continues in rep until 4 September
