After a successful run at the fringe, the shocking play returns to the venue where it debuted
David Ian Lee‘s powerful and provocative play, The Curing Room, which caused a huge stir at the 2014 Edinburgh Fringe Festival including our own four star review, will transfer to London this autumn with a three week run at the Pleasance Islington from 21 October – 9 November.
The play takes place in Poland during the Spring of 1944, just as the Soviet Union was regaining its territorial losses and invading Germany. A group of Russian soldiers are captured, stripped of their clothes and imprisoned in the basement of a monastery. Naked, hungry and dehydrated, the men are forced to question their values on loyalty, faith and hierarchy. As the days and weeks drift by, desperate measures are called for as the broken beings resort to murder and cannibalism.
Directed by Joao de Sousa, the cast features Rupert Elmes, Thomas Holloway, Harvey Robinson, John Hoye, Marlon Solomon, Matt Houston and Will Bowden.
Talking to WhatsOnStage about the transfer, de Sousa said: "We’ve been gratified by the tremendous support and feedback we’ve garnered from audiences profoundly moved by our production… Our cast is intact and our belief in the production is unwavering."
