Dolly Parton musical to run on Broadway

The show had an out-of-town premiere in 2025

The Broadway premiere of Dolly: A True Original Musical will open on beloved singer Dolly Parton’s 81st birthday on 19 January 2027.

Previews will begin on 7 December at the St James Theatre, with casting to be announced at a later date.

Recounting Parton’s life story, Dolly: A True Original Musical features some of her biggest hits, including “I Will Always Love You,” “Jolene,” and “9 to 5,” as well as new songs written for the production. The book is by Parton and Maria S Schlatter (Christmas on the Square). Bartlett Sher directs.

The music team for the production includes Stephen Oremus (music supervisor), Charity Wicks (music director), John Clancy (orchestrations), Kent Wells (musical consultant), Richard Dennison (vocal arrangements and music arrangements), and Gregg Perry (music arrangements and vocal arrangements).

The creative team is made up of Mandy Moore (choreography), Derek McLane (scenic design), Jennifer Moeller (costume design), Donald Holder (lighting design), Justin Ellington and Beth Lake (sound design), Nathan Amzi and Joe Ransom (video design), and Rob Pickens (hair design).

Dolly: A True Original Musical premiered in 2025 at the Fisher Center for the Performing Arts on the campus of Belmont University in Nashville.
