”Son of a Preacher Man” embarks on a national tour this September
Diana Vickers will star in new Dusty Springfield musical Son of a Preacher Man when it embarks on a UK tour later this year.
Vickers, who reached the final of the 2008 series of The X Factor, will originate the role of Kat in the musical, which has a book by Warner Brown and is directed and choreographed by Craig Revel Horwood.
The musical is about three strangers who find themselves drawn to the site of an old '60s Soho bar, The Preacher Man.
Vickers has previously made stage appearances in The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, The Duck House (both Vaudeville) and Hatched ‘n’ Dispatched (Park Theatre).
Son of a Preacher Man will feature Springfield's music including songs such as "The Look Of Love", "I Only Want To Be With You", "Spooky" and the title track.
In January, Maria Friedman announced she would be directing a new musical about the singer's life called Dusty, set to open next year. This follows a different musical called Dusty which ran at the Charing Cross Theatre in 2015, despite being forced to push press night back three months.
Son of a Preacher Man will open in Bromley before touring to Birmingham, Sunderland, Manchester, York, Stoke, Edinburgh, Oxford, Tunbridge Wells, Hull, Wimbledon, Belfast, High Wycombe, Southend, Nottingham, Coventry, Aylesbury, Blackpool, Torquay, Brighton, Woking, Glasgow, Aberdeen and Liverpool, with more dates and further casting to be announced.
Son of a Preacher Man will open at the Churchill Theatre in Bromley on 4 September before embarking on a UK tour.
