Mel Brooks’ musical will open at the Garrick Theatre in October
Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein will open in the West End this October.
The comedy has a book by Brooks and Thomas Meehan, with music and lyrics by Brooks. It opens at the Garrick Theatre on 10 October, with previews from 28 September.
The musical is based on the 1974 film of the same name which Brooks directed and co-wrote with Gene Wilder. Wilder plays Dr Frankenstein in the film which pokes fun at classic horror films.
The story sees esteemed brain surgeon and professor Frederick Frankenstein inherit his grandfather's castle in Transylvania. He must decide whether to continue to run from his family's tortured past or continue his grandfather's experiments in Transylvania.
This week, it was announced that Brooks was to be awarded the BAFTA Fellowship, the highest honour the body awards, recognising his long career across the arts.
Young Frankenstein production will be directed by Susan Stroman. Casting is yet to be announced.
It will open at Newcastle Theatre Royal on 26 August before moving into London.
