According to social media reports, award-winning stage and screen star Cynthia Erivo halted a performance of Dracula in the West End after spotting an audience member filming.

Multiple users shared anecdotes from the show at the Nöel Coward Theatre, where Erivo continues her solo take on Bram Stoker’s classic play, adapted and directed by Kip Williams.

One commenter detailed how “she straight up called the guy out! Put her hand up – said ‘excuse me, are you filing right now?!’ And the person said ‘sorry’.”

After the discussion, Erivo left the stage, only recommencing after the individual was removed from the show.

The pause lasted for “like ten minutes,” according to one poster.

Erivo’s actions came the day after her impressive London Marathon time of under three and a half hours. She continues in Dracula until 31 May.

Discussions around camera use during shows have been wide-reaching, with many West End productions issuing statements condemning any filming while actors are performing on stage.
