Initial casting has been announced for Danya Taymor’s new off-Broadway revival of Duncan Sheik and Seven Sater’s Spring Awakening.

The leading company includes Tyler Jordan Wesley as Melchior, Ashlyn Maddox as Wendla, Ryo Kamiayashi as Moritz, and Amalia Yoo as Ilse, alongside Antonio Porciello as Hanschen, Jack Bateman as Georg, Jada Simone Clark as Thea, Leif Coomer as Ernst, Nando Morland as Otto, Khadija Sankoh as Martha, and Grace Slear as Anna.

Celia Rowlson-Hall will choreograph and Or Maias will serve as music supervisor. The creative team also includes Christine Jones and Brett Banakis (scenic design), Kaye Voyce (costume designer), Brian MacDevitt (lighting design), Cody Spencer (sound design), Jeremy Chernick (special effects designer), Cynthia Meng (music director/conductor), David Lai (music coordinator), Ann James (intimacy coordinator), Drew Leary (fight coordinator), C A Johnson (creative consultant), Miranda Cornell (associate director), and Gigi Buffington (voice and text coach). Elizabeth Allen serves as the production stage manager.

Based on the 1891 Frank Wedekind play and set against the backdrop of a repressive and provincial late-19th-century Germany, Spring Awakening tells the timeless story of teenage self-discovery and budding sexuality as seen through the eyes of three teenagers.

Spring Awakening was originally produced by the Atlantic Theater Company, before transferring to Broadway in the winter of 2006. It won the Tony Awards triple-crown, taking home the Best Musical, Best Book, and Best Score trophies, as well as a host of others. It received a Broadway revival in 2015, presented by Deaf West, while on these shores a London revival ran at the Almeida Theatre in 2021, though that never obtained a much-requested West End transfer.

The show will be running from 27 November to 13 February at Studio Seaview in New York.
