Broadway musical Brooklyn will receive its European premiere in September, it has been announced.

The show, which originally opened in Denver in 2003 before transferring to New York in 2004, will open at the Greenwich Theatre from Friday 27 September to Saturday 19 October this year.

The show has a book, lyrics and music by Mark Schoenfeld and Barri McPherson and tells the story of a young Parisian coming to America to look for fame and her father.

The duo wrote the musical after Schoenfeld fell on hard times and McPherson, a friend from his past, heard him singing on the street one day. She invited him to live in her home and the two of them subsequently wrote Brooklyn.

Adam Haigh will direct and choreograph the show, the cast for which is yet to be announced.
