The award-winning play will have its first UK revival
The cast has been announced for the first major UK revival of Annie Baker's Circle Mirror Transformation, which opens at HOME Manchester in March.
Directed by Bijan Sheibani (Barber Shop Chronicles), the show will star Amelia Bullmore (Twenty Twelve) as Marty, Sian Clifford (Fleabag) as Theresa, Con O'Neill (Frank) as Schultz, Yasmin Paige (Submarine) as Lauren and Anthony Ofoegbu (Spooks) as James.
Baker's play is set in a New England community centre, and sees five adults come together for a creative drama class. When it opened off-Broadway in 2009 it won the Obie Award for Best New Play, and was voted one of the top ten plays by the New York Times. It made its UK premiere in 2013, with a cast including Imelda Staunton and Toby Jones. When the show opened, critic Michael Coveney described it as "a sort of ambiguously theatrical A Chorus Line without the music."
HOME artistic director Walter Meierjohann said: ""In a season where we programmed People Places & Things (which had a strong link to Chekhov's The Seagull) and Uncle Vanya, it is befitting that we now look at
Circle Mirror Transformation, a Chekhov for our times."
Circle Mirror Transformation runs at HOME Manchester from 7 to 17 March with previews from 2 March.
