Almost 400 people have joined up to be part of Society of London Theatre's new ambassadors scheme which was launched on 19 April.

The scheme is part of Inspiring the Future of Theatre, which is a partnership between SOLT, UK theatre and Inspiring the Future and aims to recruit 1000 ambassadors in the first year.

Theatre industry professionals from all sectors are encouraged to sign up to make visits to UK schools and introduce children to a diverse range of theatrical jobs.

Ambassadors so far include writer James Graham, lighting designer Prema Mehta, actress Sharon D Clarke, producer Kate Pakenham, director and choreographer Gary Lloyd, director Susie McKenna, Arts Council England's Tarek Iskander and Sita McIntosh, COO of WhatsOnStage.

The initiative officially launches on 11 July with an event at Northstead Community Primary School in Scarborough. Theatre professionals are encouraged to sign up to the scheme via the Inspiring the Future website.

The intention behind the Future Ambassador Scheme is to help build a sustainable, resilient and globally competitive workforce for the future.
