The world premiere would be perfect for a date night!
A stage adaptation of 50 First Dates has been announced.
Based on the 2004 romantic comedy starring Adam Sandler and Drew Barrymore, it follows Henry and Lucy as they fall in love, and he realises she suffers from short-term memory loss.
The musical adaptation is written by David Rossmer and Steve Rosen, and will be directed and choreographed by multi-Tony Award winner Casey Nicholaw.
Nicholaw said: “50 First Dates is one of the most beloved romantic comedies of all time, and has also been one of my favorites ever since I first saw it.”
The Tony Award-winner added that he’d watched it about 50 times as his “go-to” airplane movie. It’s there that he began to get the ball rolling to turn it into a new stage musical.
“I’m so excited to direct and choreograph the world premiere of this new, funny and romantic show… I can’t wait for London audiences to fall in love—again and again and again—when we open this September.”
George Wing wrote the screenplay for the Columbia Pictures Motion Picture. The musical’s creative team includes set and costume designer Fly Davis, lighting designer Aideen Malone, video designer George Reeve, and sound designer Adam Fisher. Hair and makeup design is by Cynthia De La Rosa, orchestrations and arrangements are by Matthew Jackson and the musical supervision and musical director is Richard Beadle. The casting director is Natalie Gallacher for Natalie Gallacher and Pippa Ailion Casting. It is produced by ATG Productions, Bad Robot Live and Gavin Kalin Productions.
Further cast is to be announced.
50 First Dates will play at the Other Palace from 14 September to 16 November 2025.
