19. Strictly Ballroom

Zizi Strallen and Jonny Labey stole our hearts in this adaptation of Baz Luhrmann's brilliant '90s film about dancing and love. And with all the tickets you booked it looks like it stole yours too. Ran at Piccadilly Theatre from March 2018

18. The Play That Goes Wrong

Those crazy cats over at Mischief Theatre have just announced their third show in the West End – Groan Ups. But let's not forget where it all started. This piece is still a firm favourite, obviously. Currently running at the Duchess Theatre

16. All About Eve

Gillian Anderson returns to London to appear alongside Lily James in Ivo van Hove's production. It has star-power all over it and you've booked up as fast as you possibly can. Running at the Noël Coward Theatre from 2 February to 11 May 2019

The late Sam Shepard was a visionary playwright and here two of our finest young actors – Kit Harington and Johnny Flynn – interpreted his dark, uncomfortable piece. Running at the Vaudeville Theatre until 23 February 2019

14. Dirty Dancing

Nobody puts baby in the corner! This classic musical adaptation of the hit film returned to the touring circuit in 2018 and it's still bringing in the crowds. Opened at Theatre Royal Brighton on 20 September before touring

13. Les Misérables

There's a double dose of Les Mis right now with the newly reviewed touring version of Alain Boublil and Claude-Michel Schönberg all over the UK and the old reliable still a hit with ticket bookers in the West End.
Currently running at the Queen's Theatre in London and on tour

The news that this classic – loosely based on the story of The Supremes – was to close in January had you all running to the box office to snap up your tickets.
Ran at the Savoy Theatre until 12 January and will embark on a tour

It's rising again! The hit Regent's Park Open Air Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar is returning to London in 2019 and tickets went on sale last year. You all have your heads screwed on and lapped up those tickets. Running at the Barbican Theatre from 4 July to 24 August 2019

10. The Comedy About a Bank Robbery

Another entry on this list for Mischief Theatre is this show, which follows a diamond heist. It's hijinks galore and a lot of madcap fun. Currently running at Criterion Theatre and touring

9. Company

Currently getting all the awards, this revival of Stephen Sondheim's musical is an absolute joy, not least for the excellent cast that includes Patti LuPone, Rosalie Craig and Jonathan Bailey. If you haven't seen it yet, get those tickets booked. Currently running at the Gielgud Theatre until 30 March

8. Chicago

It was a very welcome return for Kander and Ebb's classic musical about murder, criminals and fame. And the roster of stars it has seen since its opening has been delightful – from Caroline Flack to Martin Kemp and Todrick Hall. Ran at the Phoenix Theatre from April 2018 until January 2019

7. Bat Out of Hell – the Musical

Like a Bat Out of Hell it was gone in when the morning came… We were very sad to see Jim Steinman's rock musical close on the West End in January 2019. You all made sure you went to see it and booked up the last few tickets of 2018. Opened at the Dominion Theatre April 2018

6. Wicked

That this long-runner is on this list – and at such a high ranking – shows just how much you all love Stephen Schwartz's musical which tells the prequel to the Wizard of Oz. Currently running at the Apollo Victoria

5. Betrayal

Yikes! This was some big news of 2018 – it was announced that Tom Hiddleston would be appearing in a revival of Harold Pinter's seminal play as part of Jamie Lloyd's huge season of Pinter at the Pinter. It's a dreamy combination. Running at Harold Pinter Theatre 5 March to 5 June 2019

4. 42nd Street

Another one we were sad to see go was this revival of the hit musical about show business. It was the final show running at Drury Lane before the theatre closed for refurbishment, so grabbing a ticket also meant you saw a bit of history before it was changed. Well done you. Ran at theatre Royal Drury Lane until 5 January 2019

3. Kinky Boots

Everybody said yes and got kinky in 2018, demonstrated by the fact that you all bought tickets to this. We said goodbye to the show in London in January, but it's out on a UK tour now.Ran at the Adelphi Theatre until 12 January 2019 and currently touring

2. Motown – The Musical

The West End's soul station is still a huge draw to you all, with Berry Gordy's story being the best way to experience all those classic hits, from tunes by Michael Jackson to Stevie Wonder and The Supremes. Currently running at Shaftesbury Theatre and touring

1. Heathers – The Musical

2018 will always be the year that Heathers arrived in a big way in the UK. From its initial run at The Other Palace to its West End transfer, you all queued around the block to get tickets for the biggest musical event in a very long time. Opened at the Other Palace in June 2018 and ran at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, from September to November 2018
