The Regent's Park Open Air Theatre production of Jesus Christ Superstar will transfer to the Barbican in summer 2019.

Directed by Timothy Sheader, the Open Air Theatre production first opened in 2016, returning the following year and playing at the Lyric Opera of Chicago in April 2018. It won the Olivier Award for Best Musical Revival in 2017.

Olivier Award-winning Drew McOnie choreographed the original production, which had musical direction from Tom Deering, design by Tom Scutt, lighting design by Lee Curran and sound design by Nick Lidster for Autograph.

The Open Air Theatre runs starred Declan Bennett as Jesus with Tyrone Huntley as Judas, with casting for the Barbican transfer to be announced. The venue's 2019 season will be announced later this month.

The show has music by Andrew Lloyd Webber and lyrics by Tim Rice, and was created as a rock album in 1970 before being staged for the first time the following year.

Jesus Christ Superstar will run at the Barbican from 4 July to 24 August.
