Miriam-Teak Lee to star as Juliet in new West End musical about Shakespeare's character

Miriam-Teak Lee is to star in the premiere of a new musical based on Juliet, from Romeo and Juliet.

Called & Juliet, the show looks at what might have happened if Juliet didn't die at the end of the play. The piece has music from Max Martin, who has written songs for singers including Ariana Grande, Taylor Swift, Westlife, Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys. It follows Juliet as she heads to Paris with her best friends to try to recover from the death of her soul mate.

Lee takes on the role following her performances in the original London cast of Hamilton, where she played cover Angelica/Eliza/Peggy and Claire DeLoone in On the Town at Regent's Park Open Air Theatre in 2017.

Songs featured in the piece will include "Baby One More Time", "Love Me Like You Do", and "I Can't Feel My Face".

The production opens at the Manchester Opera House and runs from Tuesday 10 September to Saturday 12 October before arriving in London. It will run at the Shaftesbury Theatre from 2 November, with an opening night on 20 November.

Luke Sheppard (In the Heights) directs the piece which has a story by David West Read (Schitt's Creek), choreography from Jennifer Weber, lighting from Howard Hudson, sound design from Gareth Owen, costume design from Paloma Young and set design from Soutra Gilmour. Bill Sherman provides new orchestrations for Martin's music.

Tickets go on sale on February 11.
