Duncan Macmillan's adaptation of Henrik Ibsen's Rosmersholm had its West End opening night last night and guests including Mark Rylance, Helen McCrory, Preeya Kalidas and Josh Gad came to see the play.

Directed by Ian Rickson, the show stars Hayley Atwell, Tom Burke and Giles Terera and follows a grieving man, Rosmer (Burke) who has a moral crisis and is caught between different ideologies.

WhatsOnStage critic Sarah Crompton awarded the show four stars, saying: "the detail of the playing and the flair of the staging – the ending is as brilliant as it is shocking – make a strong case for this play and its heady mix of sex and politics."

Set and costumes for the show are by Rae Smith, lighting is by Neil Austin, music is by Stephen Warbeck, sound is by Gregory Clarke and casting by Amy Ball. The piece runs until 20 July.
