Harry Potter and the Cursed Child new cast announced

The new cast will join on 23 May

Rakie Ayola, Thomas Aldridge, Helen Aluko, Joe Idris-Roberts, Jamie Ballard, Susie Trayling, Jonathan Case and James Howard.

New casting has been announced for the West End production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.

From 23 May 2018, Jamie Ballard (Uncle Vanya) will play Harry Potter alongside Susie Trayling (Iphigenia Quartet) as Ginny Potter and Joe Idris-Roberts (Pinocchio) as son Albus Potter, Jonathan Case will make his professional stage debut as Scorpius Malfoy.

Thomas Aldridge continues as Ron Weasley as well as Rakie Ayola as Hermione Granger and Helen Aluko as Rose Granger-Weasley. James Howard also continues as Draco Malfoy.

The cast is completed by Rosemary Annabella, David Annen, Jordan Bamford, Emma Bown, Adrian Christopher, Craig Connolly, Danny Dalton, Leah Haile, April Hughes, Martin Johnston, Gareth Kennerley, Susan Lawson-Reynolds, Ryan J Mackay, David Mara, Dylan Mason, Barry McCarthy, Sandy McDade, James McGregor, Annette McLaughlin, Tom Peters, James Phoon, Eve Ponsonby, Kate Russell-Smith, Sinéad Sharkey, Amarah-Jae St Aubyn, Mark Theodore and Joshua Wyatt.

Written by Jack Thorne and directed by John Tiffany, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child Parts I and II take up where the seventh book finished in JK Rowling's saga about the boy wizard.

The plays follow the trials of a Harry Potter who works in the Ministry of Magic with a wife and three kids nineteen years later. His youngest son, Albus, is struggling with his family legacy.

The production opened to rave reviews at the Palace Theatre in June 2016, including WhatsOnStage critic Sarah Crompton who said "it is, quite simply, magic." It went on to win nine Olivier Awards in 2017 and last month won Best West End Show and Best Show Poster at the 18th Annual WhatsOnStage Awards.

In addition to the new casting, a further allocation of tickets for performances from 16 January to 7 April 2019 will be released on 5 April 2018 at 11am, priced from £15 per part.
