Sally Cookson and her company of actors' newly devised adaptation of Patrick Ness' best-selling novel A Monster Calls had its London premiere last night, and guests including Bertie Carvel, Elizabeth Debicki and Jade Anouka were there to see the show.

Running as part of the Old Vic's 200th birthday celebrations, the show originally ran at Bristol Old Vic last month. In her review of the production, WhatsOnStage's Daisy Bowie-Sell said it was "an upsetting watch…but a truthful, hopeful and human one too" and that audiences should "bring tissues".

A Monster Calls has set design by Michael Vale, costume design by Katie Sykes, composition by Benji Bower, lighting by Aideen Malone, sound by Mike Beer, projection by Dick Straker, casting by Jessica Ronane, movement by Dan Canham, puppetry by Laura Cubitt, aerial work by Matt Costain and associate direction by Miranda Cromwell. The novel was adapted into a 2016 film of the same name, starring Felicity Jones and Liam Neeson.
