Leicester's Curve Theatre has announced it is to increase its audience capacity to 969.

The addition of 67 seats to the auditorium will come in 2019, and comes as a result of a grant from Leicester City Council for £780,000. Five new spaces for wheelchairs will also be positioned in the stalls and the female toilet facilities will be upgraded.

The announcement comes as the theatre announced its annual review, which demonstrated that in 2017-18, Curve increased its average attendance by 8 per cent, with occupancy levels reaching 77 per cent overall.

The theatre also took £10.6million turnover and engaged one million people with activity at Curve and through touring work.

Chris Stafford, chief executive and Nikolai Foster artistic director said today: "2017-18 was a terrific year for Curve, with all areas of the theatre firing on all cylinders, setting the tone for what we are achieving during our action-packed 10th birthday year."
