The West End run of Strictly Ballroom – The Musical will be delayed by two weeks.

The musical, based on the 1992 Baz Luhrmann film of the same name with music and lyrics from Luhrmann and Catherine Martin and a book from Luhrmann and Craig Pearce, is due to run at the Piccadilly Theatre after the current production of Annie ends.

In a statement, the show's producers said: "In order to allow for unforeseen schedule conflict, the first performance of Strictly Ballroom – The Musical will now take place on Thursday 28 March, with opening night on 24 April."

The musical, with a cast including Zizi Strallen, Jonny Labey and Will Young, will feature the film's iconic music with songs including "Love is in the Air", "Perhaps Perhaps Perhaps" and "Time After Time".

Drew McOnie's production opened at the West Yorkshire Playhouse last December, starring Sam Lips and Gemma Sutton.

Ticket holders will be contacted in due course by their point of purchase in order to reschedule dates.

Strictly Ballroom runs at the Piccadilly Theatre from 24 April with previews from 28 March.
