The Bridge Theatre will host the world premiere of Martin McDonagh's new play, A Very Very Very Dark Matter next year.

Directed by Matthew Dunster and designed by Anna Fleischle, the play is set in a townhouse in Copenhagen and stars Jim Broadbent as Hans Christian Andersen.

McDonagh's most recent play Hangmen opened at the Royal Court in 2015 before transferring to the West End. His other theatre credits include Pillowman, The Lieutenant of Inishmore and The Cripple of Inishmaan.

The play reunites the writer with Broadbent after the Academy Award-winning actor starred in The Pillowman at the National Theatre in 2003. He was last seen on stage in A Christmas Carol at the Noel Coward Theatre in 2015.

Founded by Nicholas Hytner and Nick Starr, the Bridge Theatre is located next to Tower Bridge and launched in October with Young Marx starring Rory Kinnear. The first season also includes Ben Whishaw in Julius Caesar and a new Barney Norris play called Nightfall.

Details of the theatre's 2018 summer season are due to be announced soon.

A Very Very Very Dark Matter runs at the Bridge Theatre from 10 October to 29 December 2018. Tickets go on public sale on 14 November 2017 at 10am.
