A live concert presentation of the Wicked films has been announced.

The new event will see a full orchestra perform the scores and songs from both Wicked and Wicked: For Good alongside screenings of the films. The music features songs with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, alongside the film score by John Powell and Schwartz.

Released in 2024, Wicked is based on the stage musical of the same name, which in turn is adapted from Gregory Maguire’s novel. Directed by Jon M Chu, the first film starred Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba and Ariana Grande as Glinda, and follows the pair’s friendship during their time at Shiz University before the events of The Wizard of Oz. It went on to win two Oscars and break box office records. The second instalment, Wicked: For Good, premiered last November.

The stage musical, featuring music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman, premiered on Broadway in 2003 before opening in London’s West End in 2006. It continues to run at both the Gershwin Theatre on Broadway and the Apollo Victoria Theatre in the West End, where it is preparing to mark its 20th anniversary later this year.

Further details about the concert experience, including venues and dates, are to be announced.
