Ahead of a special gala at the Adelphi Theatre this Sunday, we spoke to former member of the National Youth Music Theatre Matt Lucas and founder Jeremy James Taylor.

NYMT formed in 1976 and offers classes and courses in musical theatre training for young people aged ten to 23. The gala will feature performances form the likes of Lily James, Gina Beck and Lara Pulver, and will be held on 30 November.

Other former members of the company include Jude Law, Sheridan Smith and Jamie Parker. Last year, Eddie Redmayne became the first alumnus of the company to win an Oscar for his role in The Theory of Everything.

Lucas performed with the company at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe and went on to create Little Britain with comedy partner David Walliams.

Encore – 40 Years of NYMT plays the Adelphi Theatre on Sunday 30 October. Tickets available here.
