Glee has been greenlit for a reboot.
Ryan Murphy’s musical television series has been picked up by Disney Plus and Hulu after recent reports of a finished script. The draft was written alongside Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan, who, with Murphy, penned the first two seasons of the original show.
The original series, which followed a high school show choir in Ohio, ran for six seasons on Fox between 2009 and 2015. Cast in the show that have appeared on stages across the world include Lea Michele, Darren Criss, Jonathan Groff, Matthew Morrison, Amber Riley, Alex Newell, and Kevin McHale. For many, it was the entry point into the world of musical theatre.
The reboot will be produced by 20th Television and will air on Hulu and Disney Plus. Casting information is not yet known, though Murphy has told the press that he has contacted roughly ten members of the original cast to discuss the project, reporting that they expressed interest in the concept. The names of those contacted were not disclosed.
More details are to be confirmed.
