Joey joined ”War Horse” author Michael Morpurgo at the First World War tribute
Michael Morpurgo, the bestselling author of War Horse, and 'star' of the play Joey paid a visit to the major art installation Blood Swept Lands and Seas of Red at the Tower of London yesterday (19 October).
The installation of poppies has been created in remembrance of the First World War as part of the centenary of the conflict's outbreak in 1914.
Created by ceramic artist Paul Cummins, with setting by stage designer Tom Piper, 888,246 ceramic poppies will progressively fill the Tower's moat over the year. Each poppy represents a British military fatality during the war.
Morpurgo planted a poppy and then returned to read the Roll of Honour, which is held daily at twilight and sees the names of 180 serving military killed during the First World War being read out.
