Theatre Royal Plymouth has issued a statement saying its doors will remain closed during a period of flooding in the area.

Update (13/6): The venue has now reopened its doors with no performances affected.

In a statement given to local press, James Mackenzie-Blackman, TRP’s chief executive and artistic director, said: “The torrential rain has required us to close the Theatre Royal today as we continue to deal with a significant flood into our basement. Our priority is the safety of our staff, our artists, visitors and participants. We will confirm if any public performances are impacted as soon as we can.”

A yellow weather warning has been issued for the city following torrential rain affecting transport and roads across the city. Further rain, thunder and more is expected in Plymouth over the coming days.

At the moment, Theatre Royal Plymouth does not have any scheduled performances until Sunday 15 June.

Water headaches have affected a number of venues in the last week or so, with Theatr Clwyd forced to cancel a selection of performances of tick, tick…Boom! following a leak in the venue.
