A new revival of The Sound of Music will play in Leeds.
With music by Richard Rodgers and lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II, the musical follows Maria, a novice nun sent to care for the von Trapp children. Famed numbers include “My Favorite Things”, “Do-Re-Mi” and “Edelweiss”.
The staging of the classic will be based on Curve’s production, which is set to open in Leicester this festive season, and is directed by Nikolai Foster. Casting for the Leeds run is yet to be confirmed.
Playing from 9 July to 1 August 2026 at Leeds Grand Theatre, the piece will be brought to life by the chorus and orchestra of Opera North.
Laura Canning, general director of Opera North, commented: “We are delighted to be bringing another musical theatre classic to Leeds following the success of My Fair Lady at Leeds Playhouse last year. The Sound of Music continues to enthral audiences wherever it’s performed, and this Made at Curve production promises to appeal to everyone who has already fallen under the story’s charm, while also engaging a whole new generation of fans. Hearing Rodgers and Hammerstein’s iconic score performed by the orchestra of Opera North in the historic surroundings of Leeds Grand Theatre promises to be a truly special occasion.”
Tickets go on general sale from Friday 15 August 2025.
