WhatsOnStage went into the rehearsal room to watch Matthew Burns, Rosalind Ford and Philippa Hogg sing "If I Run" from the brand new The Curious Case of Benjamin Button musical, which opens at Southwark Playhouse this May and is based on the short story by F Scott Fitzgerald.

Written, directed and produced by Jethro Compton (Wolf's Blood, The Bunker Trilogy) with music and lyrics by Darren Clark (who is also the musical director), the piece tells the curious story of one man who ages in reverse and the woman he has fallen in love with.

Appearing in the play will be Matthew Burns (The Wind In The Willows at New Vic Theatre), Ford (Mother Courage and her Children, Southwark Playhouse), Joey Hickman (A Midsummer Night's Dream, Watermill Theatre), Hogg (Alice's Adventures Underground, The Vaults) and Marlowe (The Bunker Trilogy, Southwark Playhouse).

The piece has associate direction by Ellie Gauge, movement by Chi-San Howard, stage and lighting design by Schönlatern, costume design by Cecilia Trono, sound design by Juan Coolio, puppetry by In The Bellows, Cornish translation by Pol Hodge, stage management by Lucy Rees and assistant direction by Birgit Kovacsevich.

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button runs at Southwark Playhouse from 15 May to 8 June.
