Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year and Stiles and Drewe Best New Song Prize winners revealed

At a special event at the West End Theatre Royal Haymarket last night, the winner of the 13th annual Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year and the recipient of the Stiles and Drewe Best New Song Prize were revealed.

Stuart Thompson won the Stephen Sondheim Society Student Performer of the Year award after performing "Franklin Shepard, Inc and My Thing" from Sondheim's Merry We Roll Along, with Paige Fenlon and Jamie Bogyo chosen as runners up.

Theo Jamieson was awarded the Stiles and Drewe Prize for his original song "Words/Amazing", with Ben Glasstone and Poppy Burton-Morgan chosen as runners up for their original song "My Thing".

The prize is £1,000 and is judged by Edward Seckerson, Julia McKenzie and Peter Polycarpou.

The Stiles and Drewe Prize supports and develops new musical theatre writing and recognises an outstanding song from a new musical. The winner receives £1,000 to put towards developing their work. It is judged by Stiles and Drewe alongside Nkeki Obi-Melekwe.

The evening saw performances from host Joanna Riding, former winner Alex Cardall, and Andy Coxon and Gabriela Garcia, the stars of the Royal Exchange Theatre production of West Side Story.
