Brit shows win big at this year’s Tony Awards
Winners of the 2019 Tony Awards have been announced, with wins from British shows including Hadestown and The Ferryman.
Hadestown, Anaïs Mitchell's musical which opened at the National Theatre in November 2018, led the way with eight wins, while The Ferryman took home Best Play, and Best Director for Sam Mendes.
Bertie Carvel took home the Tony Award for Best Featured Actor in a Play, for his part in James Graham's Ink, while Bryan Cranston won for his searing performance in Network, directed by Ivo van Hove, which also opened originally at the National Theatre.
Stephanie J Block won Best Actress in a Musical for The Cher Show, while Best Actor in a Musical went to Santino Fontana for Tootsie.
Hadestown took home Best Musical alongside Best Director of a Musical for Rachel Chavkin and Best Featured Actor in a Musical for André de Shields. Oklahoma! won Best Revival of a Musical.
