Ruth Negga to play Hamlet as part of Dublin Theatre Festival

Ruth Negga will play the title role in the Gate theatre's production of Hamlet, which runs as part of the Dublin Theatre Festival this autumn as the full programme is announced.

Oscar-nominee Negga, known for her roles in Preacher, Loving and Playboy of the Western World, will take on the role of the Dane in Yaël Farber's new production. Running from 21 September to 27 October, the production marks Negga's Gate Theatre debut. She previously played Ophelia at the National Theatre in a 2010 production of Hamlet.

Also featuring in the festival will be a stage adaptation of Arthur Miller's iconic film The Misfits, reimagined by Annie Ryan, as well as Obie-award winning Elevator Repair Service's Everyone's Fine with Virginia Woolf. Enda Walsh and the Irish National Opera will present Bluebeard's Castle, featuring Paula Murrihy and Joshua Bloom.

Fishamble and Abbey Theatre will present Deirdre Kinahan's new drama Rathmines Road, while Arthur Riordan's stage adaptation of James Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man will premiere. Marina Carr's award-winning The Mai will be revived by Decadent Theatre, while the Unicorn Theatre and Untitled Projects will present The End of Eddy.

As previously announced, following its run at the Donmar Warehouse's studio space, the new production of Conor McPherson's St Nicholas will play at the festival, starring Brendan Coyle.
