Images have been released offering a first look at Thom Southerland's production of Ragtime, which opens at the Charing Cross Theatre on 17 October.

The cast includes Ako Mitchell, Anita Louise Combe and Gary Tushaw.

Terrence McNally, Lynn Ahrens, and Stephen Flaherty's musical is based on the novel by EL Doctorow, and takes place in New York at the turn of the 20th Century. It tells the story of three groups in America, represented by Coalhouse Walker Jr, a Harlem musician; Mother and her white, middle class family in New Rochelle; and Tateh, a Jewish immigrant who has come to America with his daughter seeking a new life.

With set design by Tom Rogers and Toots Butcher, costume design by Jonathan Lipman and lighting design by Howard Hudson, the musical is directed by Southerland, with choreography by Ewan Jones, musical direction from Jordan Li-Smith and new orchestrations and musical supervision by Mark Aspinall.

Ragtime runs at the Charing Cross Theatre until 10 December.
