Royal and Derngate Northampton, under the direction of artistic director Jesse Jones, has announced the lineup for the remainder of its 2024 season.

Appearing in the season will be My Mother’s Funeral: The Show, unveiled today in Paines Plough’s new season and penned by Kelly Jones and running this autumn. Also in the season is The Jolly Christmas Postman, adapted from the best-selling book by Janet and Allan Ahlberg, presented as a Royal and Derngate production. The show runs from Saturday 7 to Sunday 29 December 2024.

Before that will be the stage adaptation of Kazuo Ishiguro’s bestselling novel Never Let Me Go, written by Suzanne Heathcote. A Rose Original Production with Bristol Old Vic and Malvern Theatres, it is directed by Christopher Haydon, with set and costume design by Tom Piper. The production runs from 16 to 26 October 2024.

Alongside its original productions, Royal and Derngate will play host to touring shows including the Birmingham Royal Ballet, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, and musicals like Sister Act, Dear Evan Hansen, Bonnie and Clyde and more.

Holly Gladwell, deputy CEO (programming and producing), who has co-curated the full season with Jones, said: “What makes Royal and Derngate particularly special is being able to create seasons of work that platform our own original Made In Northampton work, while also bringing some of the best touring shows and companies to our Northampton audiences. We’re particularly excited this season to be able to welcome West End hits such as Bonnie and Clyde, the brilliant Birmingham Royal Ballet’s BRB2, and a new musical Our Little Hour celebrating local hero Walter Tull.”

Penned by Dougie Blaxland amd Scott Bayliss, with original score by Chris Anthony, Our Little Hour tells the life of the first Black footballer to play at the highest level of the domestic game in the UK.
