The ”Les Mis” and ”Titanic” star picks the musical numbers he can’t live without
Fresh from his run as Marius in the West End production of Les Miserables, Rob Houchen is currently starring in Titanic – the Musical at the Charing Cross Theatre.
He is also about to release his debut EP, RH, which launches at Zigfred Von Underbelly in Hoxton on 5 June.
We caught up with Rob and asked him: "If you were stranded on a desert island which five showtunes could you not live without?"
One of my all time favourite musicals. A particularly brilliant and different interpretation of "Sunday" can be heard on Billy Porter’s album, "The Corner of Broadway and Soul".
This score is a masterpiece and I never get tired of hearing when the orchestra cuts out in this final number. I was lucky enough to play Candide in my third year production, and that’s when I fell in love with the music of this crazy show!
Oops Sondheim again. Sorry, not sorry! I have always wanted to sing this song, its beautiful melody and simple sentiment never fails to move people.
One of my pasttimes is listening to this entire score as I walk the streets of London, pretending I am a magical elf.
Menken at his best! Sorry but this should be a musical. Thanks.
