Mona Loser – the new musical from the team behind Two Strangers – reveals workshop cast

Exclusive: Casting has been announced for public workshops of Mona Loser, the new musical from the team behind Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York).

With a score by Kit Buchan and Jim Barne, and direction by Tim Jackson, Mona Loser draws inspiration from Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. It is set in the music industry, exploring viral fame, fakery, and identity. The workshops were first presented at Southwark Playhouse Borough in 2025 and at Birmingham Hippodrome earlier this year.

The workshop performances will offer audiences a chance to see the musical in development, and are supported by Birmingham Hippodrome’s New Musical Theatre Department.

Set to appear in the show are Ako Mitchell, Annabel Marlow, Carla Dixon-Hernandez, Chad Saint Louis, Kayna Montecillo, Nic Myers, Obioma Ugoala and Steven Webb.

Casting is by Olivia Laydon for Jill Green Casting.

Performances will take place from 2 to 5 September at Southwark Playhouse Borough.

Buchan and Barne’s Two Strangers (Carry A Cake Across New York) was nominated for eight awards at this year’s Tony Awards, making it the most-nominated British production of the season. It continues to play on Broadway.
