”Miranda” stars plus celebrities such as Bill Nighy and Alexandra Burke attended the West End opening
Nikolai Foster's production of Annie opened in the West End last night, starring Miranda Hart in her West End debut.
Stars including Alexandra Burke, Graham Norton, Bill Nighy and Hart's TV co-stars Sarah Hadland, Patricia Hodge and Tom Ellis joined the cast to celebrate.
The musical is by Thomas Meehan and has music by Charles Strouse and lyrics from Martin Charnin. Based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie, the story follows an orphan who is taken under the wing of a billionaire American businessman.
The title role is shared by three actors – 13 year-old Madeleine Haynes, and 12 year-olds Lola Moxom and Ruby Stokes.
In her review for WhatsOnStage, Sarah Crompton said "what the world needs is a feel-good musical featuring a plucky orphan, a shaggy dog – and a glistening message of cast-iron hope and optimism."
Annie will run at the Piccadilly Theatre until 6 January 2018.
