Exclusive: A new tour of Legally Blonde is set for next year.
The much-loved show follows Elle Woods, who overcomes social expectations and becomes a successful Harvard Law School graduate.
With music and lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe and Nell Benjamin, and a book by Heather Hach, the musical is based on the novel by Amanda Brown and the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer motion picture of the same name.
It was first seen on Broadway in 2007, with a West End production opening in 2010, where it won four WhatsOnStage Awards and three Olivier Awards. A hit revival subsequently began life at Curve in Leicester, before embarking on a tour. The show was last seen in the UK in a WhatsOnStage Award-winning revival at Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre in 2022.
Curve artistic director Nikolai Foster will direct the brand new production, produced by Curve and ROYO – who also collaborated on the current tour of Kinky Boots. It will open at the Leicester venue in 2026 and tour across the UK into 2027. See full tour dates here.
Curve’s chief executive Chris Stafford and Foster said: “Legally Blonde is firmly established in the musical theatre repertoire as a contemporary classic and it’s a pleasure to be reunited with “Little Miss Woods – comma – Elle” in the 2020s.”
They added: “Laurence O’Keefe, Nell Benjamin and Heather Hach’s electrifying musical about empowerment, equality and the folly of judging a book by its cover remains pitch perfect and as relevant as ever. We have assembled a “mad props” creative team and together we are looking forward to creating a fresh, fun and sunny SoCal production of this great musical.”
Full cast and creative team are to be announced.
