Photos have been released offering a first look at the brand new tour of Kinky Boots, which opens this month in Northampton.
The hit musical by Harvey Fierstein and Cyndi Lauper, Kinky Boots is based on the hit 2005 film with a screenplay by Tim Firth. It tells the story of Charlie Price, who inherits a suffering shoe factory. Following a meeting with drag queen Lola, Price starts embracing a more flamboyant business model. It won three Olivier Awards in 2016 for Best New Musical, Best Costume Design and Best Actor in a Musical for Matt Henry.
Callum Francis plays Lola – a role he has been playing in the Australian production – until 15 December, with Kayi Ushe (Motown) taking over from 17 December. Joel Harper-Jackson (Jesus Christ Superstar) will play Charlie alongside Paula Lane (Coronation Street) as Lauren. Demitri Lampra (The Wind in the Willows) will play Don, Adam Price (Hairspray) will play George and Helen Ternent (Jersey Boys) will play Nicola.
The touring production Kinky Boots will open at the Royal and Derngate in Northampton from 19 September to 6 October, before touring to initial venues including Wolverhampton Grand Theatre, Newcastle Theatre Royal, Manchester Opera House, Edinburgh Playhouse, Marlowe Theatre Canterbury, Regent Theatre, Stoke-on-Trent and Bristol Hippodrome.
