Noma Dumezweni and Twiggy also joined the Tony winner for her West End debut
Six-time Tony Award winner Audra McDonald made her West End debut last night in Lonnie Price's production of Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill.
McDonald plays Billie Holiday in the piece, which is set a few months before the legendary singer's death and sees her performing a gig and telling the audience about her troubled life.
Ian McKellen attended opening night along with Twiggy, Elaine Paige, Noma Dumezweni and Lydia Leonard.
The show garnered a four star review from WhatsOnStage, saying that the show will "make you feel as though you are in the presence of the woman herself."
Lady Day at Emerson's Bar and Grill runs at Wyndham's until 9 September.
