Moira Buffini’s play is set in Nazi-occupied Guernsey in 1943
Full casting has been announced for the tour of Moira Buffini's Gabriel, which opens at Richmond Theatre in March.
Belinda Lang and Jules Melvin join the previously announced Paul McGann (Withnail and I) in Buffini's play based in 1943 Nazi-occupied Guernsey.
Best known for the BBC sitcom 2 Point 4 Children, Lang's previous theatre credits include Single Spies, The Glass Menagerie and Hay Fever. Melvin's theatre credits include Private Lives at Hampstead Theatre, Othello and Richard III at Shakespeare's Globe.
The 20th anniversary production will kick off in Richmond in March before touring to Liverpool, Eastbourne, Mold, Windsor, Greenwich and Guildford.
Directed by Kate McGregor, the cast also includes Robin Morrissey (The Government Inspector, Birmingham Rep), Sarah Schoenbeck (The Breadwinner, Orange Tree Theatre), and Venice van Someren (Thérèse Raquin, Southwark Playhouse).
First performed at the Soho Theatre in 1997, Gabriel tells the story of a widow who does whatever it takes to keep her adolescent children safe on an island filled with danger and fear.
