Ivo van Hove’s production begins its tour of the UK in Plymouth in October
Casting has been announced for the UK tour of Henrik Ibsen’s Hedda Gabler, which opens at the Theatre Royal Plymouth in October following a critically acclaimed run at the National Theatre.
Joining the previously announced Lizzy Watts (Hedda) is Madlena Nedeva (Berte), Christine Kavanagh (Juliana), Abhin Galeya (Tesman), Annabel Bates (Thea), Adam Best (Brack) and Richard Pyros (Lovborg).
The new version, adapted by Patrick Marber, opened at the National in December and starred Ruth Wilson and Rafe Spall.
Ivo van Hove directs Ibsen's classic about a woman who has just married and yet longs to be free. In her five-star review for WhatsOnStage, Sarah Crompton said the play "produces a Hedda unlike any I have ever seen" and was "full of pain and doubt".
Hedda Gabler will open in Plymouth before touring to Edinburgh, Leicester, Salford, Norwich, Hull, Aberdeen, Northampton, Glasgow, Wolverhampton, Woking, Nottingham, Newcastle, York and Milton Keynes.
