Exclusive: SuRie, who represented the UK in the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest, will be starring in Irving Berlin’s classic musical Annie Get Your Gun this summer.

The new open-air Lavender Theatre, located on a lavender farm in Surrey, will host the production from 17 July to 5 August 2023.

SuRie, who has sold over 6 million records and performed all over the world, will play the role of sharpshooter Annie Oakley, and said today: “Ever since my first encounter with Annie Oakley during my time at The Royal Academy of Music it’s been a dream to play that strong character with her fabulous, self-deprecating sense of humour. It is that same down-to-earth humour that got me through my own Wild West adventure that was the 2018 Eurovision Song Contest. This time, however, watch out; the girl is armed..!”

Irving Berlin’s granddaughter, Emily Fletcher, said: “I’m thrilled that, as part of the 135th
celebrations of my grandfather’s birthday, there is a new cast announced for the latest UK production of Annie Get Your Gun! It is wonderful that theatres around the world keep his legacy alive through reviving his iconic characters and timeless songs, including two of my favourites “I Got Lost in His Arms” and “Moonshine Lullaby”.”

Irving Berlin’s classic tells the fictionalised tale of the real-life sharp-shooter Annie Oakley who falls for a star marksman. It includes numbers such as “There’s No Business Like Show Business” and “Anything You Can Do”.

Directed and choreographed by Simon Hardwick, the rest of the cast includes Charlie McCullagh (42 Balloons, Bonnie and Clyde) as Frank Butler, Chlöe Hart (Six) as Dolly Tate, and Elliot Broadfoot, making his professional debut as Buffalo Bill.

The rest of the company features Nina Bell (Matilda), Joe Boyle (Top Hat), Kyerron Dixon-Bassey (From Here To Eternity), Jay Faisca (Henry VI: Days of Rebellion), Marisa Harris (Yeast Nation), Holly Lawrence (Grease, Royal Caribbean), AJ Lewis (Mandela), and Joseph Vella (Gypsy).

Playing Annie’s younger siblings are Olivia Ainsworth, Mayah Balcerak, Layla Duke, Mahlie Duval,
Poppy LeRougetel, and Caitlin Muggeridge.

The Lavender Theatre, which has a seating capacity of 250, is a brand-new open-air theatre located on a lavender farm in Surrey. It provides a unique and stunning setting for a theatrical production. The production will run for three weeks, from July 17 to August 5, 2023.

SuRie’s performance in Annie Get Your Gun follows the release of her forthcoming studio album, ‘Building A Woman,’ which is coming on May 14. She will then embark on a string of live dates across the UK with her new show “Cover/Me” before taking on the role of Annie Oakley.

The production is produced by Lavender Theatre artistic director Joe McNeice for Lavender Productions Ltd. The creative team includes associate director and choreographer Maria Graciano, musical supervisor Matthew Spalding, musical director Debbi Clarke, and casting director Danielle Tarento.

Tickets are on sale via the Lavender Theatre website.
