Casting & tour dates announced for Sheffield Full Monty

Casting has been announced for Sheffield Theatres’ forthcoming screen-to-stage production The Full Monty.

The ‘play with songs’, adapted from the 1997 film about six unemployed Sheffield steelworkers who turn to stripping, opens at the Lyceum Theatre, Sheffield on 18 February 2013 (previews from 2 February).

Leading the company of Daniel Evans‘ production are Kenny Doughty, Craig Gazey, Simon Rouse, Keiran O’Brien, Roger Morlidge and Sidney Cole.

Kenny Doughty (Sky TV’s Stella) plays Gaz; Craig Gazey (Coronation Street) is Lumper; Simon Rouse (The Bill) is Gerald; Keiran O’Brien (Micheal Winterbottom’s Nine Songs) is Guy; Roger Morlidge (The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love) is Dave and Sidney Cole (Macduff in Macbeth directed by Max Stafford-Clark) is Horse.

Completing the company are Scott Anson, Tracy Brabin, Caroline Carver, Eamonn Fleming, Elaine Glover, Rachel Lumberg and Ian Mercer.

The production, which is being adapted by the film’s scriptwriter Simon Beaufoy (making his theatre debut), will also feature songs from the film by Donna Summer, Rod Stewart, Hot Chocolate and Tom Jones.

The Full Monty is designed by Robert Jones (Calendar Girls, Much Ado About Nothing at Wyndham’s) with choreography by Steven Hoggett (Black Watch).

The production runs at the Lyceum until 23 February before commencing a regional tour, visiting: Birmingham Hippodrome (26 February-2 March), Bristol Hippodrome (4-9 March), Marlowe Theatre, Canterbury (11-16 March), His Majesty’s Theatre, Aberdeen (19-23 March), Grand Opera House, Belfast (1-6 April), Festival Theatre, Edinburgh (25-30 March), Bord Gais Energy Theatre, Dublin (8-13 April), The Lowry, Salford (15-20 April), The Mayflower, Southampton (22-27 April) and Cliffs Pavilion, Southend On Sea (29 April-4 May).
