Hope Mill Theatre replaces A Christmas Story with Sondheim's Putting It Together
The Hope Mill Theatre has cancelled its planned production of Pasek and Paul's A Christmas Story, which was due to run at the Manchester venue this winter.
Written by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul – the songwriting duo behind Dear Evan Hansen, The Greatest Showman and La La Land – A Christmas Story was due to receive its UK premiere in October.
Instead, the theatre will now produce a revival of Putting It Together. The musical, which draws its title from a song in Sunday in the Park With George, celebrates the work of Stephen Sondheim and features almost 30 songs from the composer's shows including Sweeney Todd, Follies and A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum.
Having originally signed up to direct A Christmas Story, Bronagh Lagan will helm the production which runs from 24 October to 24 November.
Casting will be announced in due course.
