A performance of new jukebox musical Knights of the Rose was cancelled at the interval on Friday evening, when a cast member 'aggravated a vocal injury'.

Directed by Racky Plews, the musical features songs from the likes of Bon Jovi, Meat Loaf and Enrique Iglesias, and focusses on a band of plucky knights who must defend their house and their honour.

Evening Standard critic Fiona Mountford, who was in the audience for Friday's performance, tweeted saying: "I've never been to a show which was cancelled before the second half, but that's what happened at Knights of the Rose last night.

"Director came on stage at end of interval to explain that there had been an outbreak of 'virus' among the cast. Blimey."

A statement from the show said: "We took the decision to cancel the second act due to an actor aggravating a vocal injury. The understudy was already unwell and unable to perform. The health of our staff is paramount and we thank the audience for their understanding."

Performances over the weekend were also cancelled with the show's run recommencing today (Monday 9 July).
