UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie cancelled

The UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie has been cancelled two months ahead of its intended end date.

In a statement, the production company cited lower than expected ticket sales as the reason they were pulling the show.

The statement reads: "We are extremely sorry to have to announce the cancellation of the UK tour of Thoroughly Modern Millie.

"This has been caused by lower ticket sales than expected, which in turn has put the company producing the show in financial difficulties and they are no longer able to continue with the tour. The show was wonderful, and received excellent reviews as it toured the UK, but despite this, ticket sales were not strong enough to maintain the viability of the show. Our hearts go out to the brilliant cast of the show, who sang and danced their hearts out to bring Thoroughly Modern Millie to audiences all over the country. Sadly, and regretfully, the show is now cancelled.

"We are extremely sorry for the inconvenience and disappointment this cancellation will cause everyone who was planning on seeing the show."

Thoroughly Modern Millie was due to run at the Bradford Alhambra Theatre from 5 to 9 June before heading to the Darlington Hippodrome, Cliffs Pavilion in Southend, the Grand Theatre Wolverhampton, Worthing Pavilion and Jersey Opera House, finishing its run on 5 August. Initially more dates were to be announced.

Joanne Clifton previously starred in the titular role of Millie Dilmount, the Kansas woman determined to make her name in New York, before Hayley Tamaddon took over in March this year. Lucas Rush played Mrs Meers. The musical has a book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan with new music from Janine Tesori and new lyrics from Dick Scanlan. Racky Plews directed and choreographed the show while David King was the executive producer.
