Will Betty Blue Eyes get reanimated for national tour?

Speaking to Whatsonstage.com Northwest, composer George Stiles has revealed plans to stage a new, northern production of Betty Blue Eyes. The composer claims that a revival of the musical has been in the works since before the West End version closed in September last year.

Further details of the new production have yet to be released, but Stiles – who wrote the musical with his lyricist partner Anthony Drewe – said: “If all goes well, it would definitely tour. We should have news within a few months.”

A screen-to-stage adaption of Alan Bennett‘s A Private Function, the show originally opened at the Novello Theatre in April 2011 starring Sarah Lancashire, Reece Shearsmith and an animatronic pig voiced by Kylie Minogue. Despite strong reviews, the Cameron Mackintosh production subsequently closed on 24 September 2011 due to poor ticket sales.

The action is set in a Yorkshire village after the Second World War,
where rationing presents a challenge for the locals who want to
celebrate the Queen’s Royal wedding to Prince Philip in style.
