In ‘New Jerseys all boys school’ (1973), two students, Malcolm, a socially anxious loner and Fred, a chaotic, loud, rude firecracker, find themselves in detention with each other only to find out that no teacher has turned up. Hesitant to get in trouble for skipping detention they both decide to stay there until a teacher comes, slowly but surely they begin to open up to each other to pass the time, but it’s only when one of them mentions an extremely abusive run in with a teacher from a few years back that they realise they may be more similar than any other two students in the whole school.
