The Windrush Warriors follows the story of 4 African-Caribbean pensioners, children of the Windrush generation who find their peaceful retirements threatened by the government’s hostile environment. Are they not British citizens? They have to prove it damn quick otherwise they face the unthinkable – deportation to the unknown. The play faces up to the realities so many face using real life events. The Windrush Warriors’ fight back group is born with the community centre lounge as their headquarters, the fearless elders refusing to be bullied or harassed. The play strikes a balance between comedy and sobering drama with the African receptionist Patience and Rasta caretaker Robbie bringing their own anarchy and hilarity to the show.
