Frantic Assembly has announced complete tour dates for its new adaptation of Franz Kafka’s Metamorphosis.

Co-produced with Theatre Royal Plymouth, Curve, MAST Mayflower Studios and Lyric Hammersmith Theatre, the piece is the result of a collaboration between the company’s artistic director Scott Graham and poet, playwright and broadcaster Lemn Sissay.

Alongside Sissay (as writer) and Graham (as director), further members of the creative team have also been revealed. The production will feature designs by Jon Bausor, video design by Ian William Galloway, music by Stefan Janik, sound design by Helen Skiera, associate direction by David Gilbert, and casting direction by Will Burton CDG. The producer is Kerry Whelan.

Kafka’s seminal novella, first printed in 1915, famously follows the transformation of a man into a huge insect.

This stage version is set to premiere at Theatre Royal Plymouth from 12 to 16 September 2023, before visiting Leicester’s Curve (19 to 23 September), Southampton’s MAST Mayflower Studios (26 to 30 September), Connaught Theatre Worthing (3 to 7 October), York Theatre Royal (10 to 14 October), Liverpool Playhouse (17 to 21 October), Northern Stage Newcastle (24 to 28 October), Mercury Theatre Colchester (7 to 11 November), The Lowry in Salford (14 to 18 November), Yvonne Arnaud Theatre Guildford (21 to 25 November), Bristol Old Vic (10 to 20 January 2024), Belgrade Theatre Coventry (23 to 27 January) and a four-week run at the Lyric Hammersmith Theatre (1 February to 2 March).

Casting will be announced in due course.
